Highway 11 Crossing

Milwaukee Road's Former Southwestern Line in WI

Highway 11 Crossing

On a dreary late afternoon in January of 1997 a driver in a red sports car plays a dangerous game of beat the train at the Highway 11 grade crossing. A grey colored vehicle on the other side of the tracks from the red sports car also decides to go for it and crosses in front of the train after slowing. Now you see it, now you don't.

Taking the photos at the time I was amazed to see people ignore the flashing lights and the train's horn and travel across the tracks anyway. The location is about a mile east of Highway 75 and on the line between Kansasville and Union Grove, WI.

This CP Rail patrol is headed east back to Sturtevant after switching in Kansasville. Note the Soo Line caboose in the middle of the train in the sequence of photos. By this late date cabooses were becoming rare.
